Artist Statement
Loretta Oberheim’s work is rooted in an ongoing dialogue between place, memory, and resilience. Through watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media, she explores how familiar landscapes—particularly coastal environments—can hold emotion, history, and personal narrative. Texture plays a central role in her process, allowing each piece to evolve intuitively and reflect the layered nature of lived experience.
Her practice is deeply experimental, shaped by both physical process and adaptation. Embracing unconventional tools and techniques, Loretta views imperfection not as a flaw but as a record of movement, endurance, and growth. Each work becomes a quiet meditation on presence, change, and the act of returning—to place, to memory, and to self.
In addition to her studio practice, Loretta is an active volunteer with the South Bay Art Association, serving as Chairperson of the Website Committee. Through this role, she supports SBAA’s mission by strengthening digital accessibility and visibility for artists, believing that creative communities thrive when connection and inclusion are prioritized.
